Maria Jelaca, Hunter Clark, Lena Rodriguez and Ivan Anastasovski

Yoga is a mind-body practice reported to have numerous health benefits, while prolonged sitting is reported to cause adverse health issues. In this preliminary study, a total number of seventy-nine [79] student volunteers were anthropometrically evaluated. Forty-two [42] individuals were measured before and after college yoga classes, while thirty seven [37] students were measured in the classroom before and after regular lecture blocks. The first group showed slight decrease in stature after yoga, while the second group measured taller after normally sitting during the lecture. Foot size on average increased in males, while it decreased in females with both yoga and prolonged sitting groups. This preliminary experiment produced noteworthy results regarding the changes in the stature and feet in association with Yoga and prolonged sitting and the foot alterations in both contexts in association with Yoga as well as prolonged sitting.
